I The Lounge Lizards sono un gruppo jazz statunitense formati nel 1979 a New York e guidati dal sassofonista John Lurie.
Inizialmente venivano identificati ironicamente come un gruppo di "finto jazz" per il loro stile che univa il punk rock e la no wave newyorkese a forti dosi di jazz.
Vennero col tempo sempre più apprezzati per la loro originalità che univa esperienze musicali raccolte da tutte le parti del mondo.
Furono fondati il 4 giugno del 1979 da John Lurie, con suo fratello Evan (piano e organo), Arto Lindsay (chitarra), Steve Piccolo (basso), e Anton Fier (batteria).
Il gruppo ha subito col tempo moltissimi cambi di formazione, hanno fatto parte del gruppo tra gli altri: Marc Ribot, Erik Sanko, Peter Zummo, Oren Bloedow, Jane Scarpantoni, Steven Bernstein.

The Lounge Lizards are a jazz group formed in 1978 by saxophonist John Lurie and his brother, pianist Evan Lurie. In American slang, a "lounge lizard" is typically depicted as a well-dressed man who frequents the establishments in which the rich gather with the intention of seducing a wealthy woman with his flattery and deceptive charm.
Drawing on punk rock and no wave as much as jazz, The Lounge Lizards have since become respected for their creative and distinctive sound.
In October of 1986, Robert Palmer of The New York Times wrote "the Lounge Lizards...have staked their claim to a musical territory that lies somewhere west of Charles Mingus and east of Bernard Hermann and made it their own."
